Maxine Waters and the Judge, Defense Counsel Response

Rep. Maxine Waters (D) California appeared at Center with protestors and said:

“I am very hopeful, I hope we get a verdict that says guilty, guilty, guilty. If we don’t, we cannot go away.”
“We got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational, we’ve got to make sure that they, they know we mean business.”

Defense council reacted to Waters’ comments and ask the judge for a mistrial. Defense council and the judge inappropriately stated in open court in the presence of the jury that Maxine Waters needs to shut up:

Defense Council Eric Nelson: “Now we have U.S. representatives threatening acts of violence in relation to this specific case, it’s mind-boggling judge.”

GOP Judge Peter Cahill (conservative) : “I’ll give you that, Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal, that may result in this whole trial being overturned.

This goes back to what I’ve been saying from the beginning: I wish elected officials would stop talking about this case, especially in a manner that is disrespectable to the rule of law and our function.”

Judge Cahill enjoys no authority whatsoever over anyone – not directly or tangibly related to this trial – making public statements about this trial.

There is absolutely 0.0% chance of this case being overturned on appeal due to “outside interference.”
